Curved Bench
Project Time: 4-6 hours
Project materials included:
30 pieces Tegula Wall
35 pieces (+ 4 “1/2 cut” piece) Tegula Beveled Pieces
8 pieces Rotundo med,12 pieces Rotundo rec, &
6 pieces Rotundo large
2 pieces Flat Caps (20” x 20”)
2 tubes Glue
Tools Needed:
String line, level, gloves, shovel, wheel barrow, tape measure, caulking gun & Rubber mallet
Gluing Method:
4 quarter size blobs in each corner about 1 inch away from any edges
Installation Instructions:
Step 1 - Prepare the site
Set stake at center of main focus & run a 6’3” string and mark with paint the outside circumference for a distance of 9’ 11”. Dig 16” wide from mark and down 8”. Fill with 3/4 - gravel and tamp solid.
Step 2 - Lay corner pillar
If using Rotundo Circle System, Bench will set on circle row 8 & 9. Starting at the edge lay 4 Tegula Walls to create the pillar. Continue laying stones from edge of Pillar.
Step 3 - Lay Bottom course
Lay 8 Tegula Beveled pieces following front arc of the area. For back arc of the bench lay 10 Tegula Beveled pieces & then 1 “1/2 cut” Tegula Beveled piece against the end pillar.
Step 4 - Continue laying
For the second course of the back arc of the bench, lay the “1/2 cut” Tegula Beveled piece next to opposite pillar of the first course. Then lay 10 Tegula Beveled pieces.
Step 5 - Set & Glue
In front starting with 2 “1/2 cut” Tegula Beveled pieces lay one next to each opposite pillars , then lay 7 Tegula Beveled Pieces. Bench is 2 courses high with Rotundo pieces for caps..
Step 6 - Cap the wall
Pillars are 4 stone high and then a 24” x 24” Flat cap is added. Bench front arc uses 7 Rotundo med & 6 Rotundo Rec. Bench back arc uses 1 Rotundo med, 6 Rotundo Rec & 6 Rotundo large.
